Choi Jongyoll has written new poems of great humility and passion about his self-chosen role as receptive seer, illuminator and embracer of the natural worldl. He writes about things of this world, things which he celebrates as talismans and emblems of what the human spirit can strive to be, to emulate--and in this work, I think, he has achieved this deep purpose, and become a transmitter of his transcendent visionary experience.

Jongyoll Choi's hypnotic debut book of poems in English is replete with reverence for Nature. The loneliness of the young expatriate poet finding solace and beauty in snowy foreign fields; his careful observation of American flora and fauna; his yearning for a faraway family found in a flock of birds wining skyward: all these things infuse Choi's stark, nostalgic book. If his poems cannot literally fly him home, they build his very own literary nest in the sky. Don't take my word for it. Read Sky Nest and see for yourself!
